Alana spoke about the Rotary Foundation.
Lavinia, Juan and Hansi spent this past weekend in Manning Park with the outbound exchange students.
Hansi spoke about an exchange student from Brazil who is looking for a place to stay for his year in Canada.
Gordon spoke about the first ever Rotary Bike Challenge this Sunday at caps bicycle 9am. The registration fee is $26.50 which all goes towards rotary.
Gloria went this past weekend to the young professionals summit and it went well. Dean Rohrs spoke at the event.
Liz went to Dubai and had a great time. She went to a Rotary meeting while she was there. Rick reminded everyone of the Hyack week coming up.
There will be a Pot of Gold committee meeting next week after the regular meeting.
Merrilyn connected with the walk to end polio campaign, and they are wanting everyone to get involved. It is on May 28th at 10am at the Quay.
Kelly spoke about the police assistance van drive this May 27th.
Roy did a, "good morning, Doug" video for Mr Doug Fynn.

7:30am: Guest Speaker: Lorrie from Monarch Place. They are going to build a townhouse complex in Queensborough. Lorrie also spoke about men's groups that they support. The men's group has been in existence for 4 years and how it has really helped the men become better members of society. The group has made a big difference in their lives. Lorrie shared a story about a woman who was at Monarch Place. The woman had never been taken care of as she had a disabled child whom all her attention went to. On the day of the woman's birthday, the staff at Monarch Place surprised the woman with a birthday cake and sang, "happy birthday". The woman cried as no one had ever done anything for her. Wendy presented a cheque for $14,238.95 to Monarch Place and Roy took the picture.
We are looking forward to a great evening of music, dancing and good company of friends. Please ask your friends and neighbours to join us at this fun event. Tickets are just $35. And all proceeds go to Kidsport in New Westminster.
The Rotaractors have only 2 members at present. They really need our help to find and invite young adults (under 30 years of age) to attend the upcoming Open House and Information Meeting they are planning. With a larger group of members, they will be able to continue and be viable as a club.
We are asking and encouraging our members to help them have a successful Open House attendance, as this would make a big difference. Please help our Rotaractors by inviting all the young adults we know, work with, and cross paths with to go to the Open House scheduled for Friday, April 21, 2017 at 6:30pm. They are preparing materials and we will receive those with more information.

We have been advised that there will be a container loading Saturday,April 22, 2017 at 9:00am, at Riverview. We could really use your help. This shipment is going to Kiev Ukraine and is being sponsored by the Rotary Club of North Vancouver Lions Gate.
If you are interested in helping, please let Paul Esslinger know. A map to the container loading areas is attached below. The warehouse is located on Thistle Place – very close to the letter “P” on the map.

The Rotary Foundation 100th Anniversary- Ongoing Initiative Updates (Acts of Kindness and Rotary Century Ride 100k)
Celebrating TRF's Centennial with Acts of Kindness
Goal:
100 Acts of Kindness between December 2016 to June 30, 2017 (include to oneself, family, Rotary family, friends, strangers)
Prizes:
Each month a prize will be given to a member sponsored by either Gloria Staudt (aromatherapy candle) or Burnaby Palace Restaurant (gift card).
Other Rotary Family Participating:
New West Rotaract and Interact Clubs will be participating.
Communications on the Initiative:
Gloria and/or any member may at club meeting share about kind acts. When Gloria shares it will be anonymous acts reported to her by members, Rotaract Club or Interact Club
Rick Janssen will randomly and continuously post from anonymous list. Members are encouraged to visit club Facebook page and post as well if they wish and on their own Facebook page(for other places, Royal City Rotary is to be included)

Gave 2 homeless men bags of food and snacks
Helped a fellow Rotarian by asking his daughter to help with an unexpected solution to a ride needed
Followed Gloria’s lead in supporting the clean water project in Laos, several Rotarians shared the sponsorship in the amount of $57.50 (50% of the cost)
Financially and emotionally supported a co-worker who has been recently diagnosed with an illness which has prevented them from being able to work
Daughter’s washing machine broken so did her weekly laundry for her until the part arrived
Prepped meals for busy females
Supported a single mom who is having challenges with her daughter
Gave my unexpired parking ticket to someone else looking for parking, so they did not have to pay.
Was a shoulder to cry on for a troubled friend
Helped a co-worked understand a difficult problem and helped her to find her own solution so she could grow and develop her skills
Gave change from a coffee to camp fund several times
Gave a ride home to someone who would otherwise have to take 3 buses – this is becoming a weekly occurrence
Helped several people deal with stressful situations
Visited a girlfriend who has lost a daughter and helped her laugh instead of cry about her daughter.
Spoke out on-line through Amnesty International for women and girls living in uninhabitable and unsafe conditions in refugee camps in Ellniko, Athens
Asked neighbours about a place to rent for a Syrian refugee family with 3 children as the house they were renting is up for sale
Made a pledge to signing the pledge to resist Trump's fossil fuel agenda through direct action
Supported on-line the release of North Sulawesi villagers brutally attacked for Conflict Palm Oil and arrested for protecting their rightfully owned land, farms and houses
Supported through the Suzuki Foundation the ban of dangerous neonic pesticides
Supported CREDO's allocation of donations to progressive organizations
Spoke out for the #BerksKids, helping to ensure the rights of migrants, asylum seekers and children are protected
Supported the campaign against Nestle's privitization of Water which would likely have a negative impacts
Supported the call on the UN to hold those responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Syrian conflict
Spoke up through the Suzuki's Foundation on how Canada's oceans are managed
Called on, through Amnesty International Canada, the Chechen authorities to investigate abductions in the LGBTI community and bring those responsible to justice
Spoke out to help free journalist Hengameh Shahidi.
The Good Host program is how YOU can get involved - you are invited to help out by meeting, greeting and sharing cultural experiences with our Youth Exchange students. Juan Herrera (Mexico) and Lavinia Cappriccioli (Italy) are here and deserve to see and experience Canada to the fullest.
Any one of us can be Good Hosts by simply sharing some time with Juan and Lavinia. A phone call, lunch, dinner with family, sporting event, cultural outing, almost anything goes. However - all who host our youth exchange student unsupervised - even for a day event - must have submitted the YE police check paperwork to Paige Freeman prior to hosting.
Please remember to include our youth exchange students in any activities you and your family participate in. Juan and Lavinia can be contacted as follows:
Greeters are the first point of contact for guests, potential new members, and our members. Making all who attend our meeting feel welcome is the responsibility of all of us as we all take turns being greeters.
1. All greeters should arrive no later than 6:40 am and be prepared to assist in setting up and preparing for the meeting. If a greeter cannot be present for their day of duties, please contact another member to fill in for you.
2. Greeter # 1 will ensure that the sandwich board at the entrance
3. Greeter # 2 will ensure that flags and banners are in place.
4. Greeters should welcome all members and guests and make them comfortable with the proceedings and surroundings, i.e., seating, coffee, schedule of meeting etc.
5. Greeter # 1 greets and sits with the speaker to gather information useful in providing a respectful and meaningful introduction of the speaker and the program.
6. Greeter # 2 thanks the speaker and presents the certificate of appreciation for their presentation. NOTE: The certificate is NOT a contribution of $20.00 in the speakers’ name. We donate $20.00 to the Rotary Foundation in recognition of their presentation at the meeting.
7. Greeter # 3 assists in taking down the flags, banners and places the sandwich board back in Kathy's office.
