Michael is a business consultant. He specializes in helping businesses grow. His consulting firm is called, Kaizen Consulting. He is more interested in getting people what they want in life using business as a tool.
He spoke specifically about one client in the UK that he helped, Louise Pasterfield. Louise had an e-commerce business that, back in 2010, had an annual revenue of 400,000 british pounds. With Michael’s help, Louise was able to grow her business to an annual revenue of 2,000,000 british pounds in 2014.
Michael reminds us that taking time off allows us to grow by making us sharper and allowing for better decision making. He also reminds us that as a business grows, the owner needs to think more and do less, think more about how to grow the business and do less day to day work in the business.
He ended his presentation by giving out a free copy of his book for everyone titled, “Thinking Big is Not Enough”.
If you want to keep your attendance up for a 100% attendance award, you have several options:
1/ You can attend other clubs meetings and report your attendance at those meetings at the door when you come back to our club or to the Secretary by sending her an email with the date and club you attended.
2/ You can attend a Rotary eClub meeting by using the rotaryeclubone.org website. This club will automatically advise Sandy of your attendance.
3/ You can work on a project or attend a committee meeting that lasts at least 30 minutes. You will need to report this activity directly to the Secretary by email.
One thing to remember is that Rotary usually wants the make-up done within2 weeks of the date of the meeting you missed. WE are usually a little more generous allowing 3 to 4 weeks, if you let the Secretary know in a timely manner. The secretary this years is Sandy Freeman and her email is sandypfreeman@gmail.com

7:00- Meeting was opened with the singing of our national anthem, “Oh, Canada” and the Word of the Day, by Hansi.
7:05- Breakfast was served
7:15- Introduction of guests: LJ (Gillian's grandson), Arlene (from Chilliwack), Ken Wilkinson, Michael Walsh (our speaker), and little Olivia.
7:20- Minutes of the Mic. Andrew was our standing president again today, Liz mentioned a lawn bowling fund raiser, Liz is also having a house warming party at 703 Prescott St this Saturday starting at 4pm, Kathy mentioned that there will be a Hockey Pool meeting after the Sept. 2nd meeting.
7:25- Housekeeping. Kathy mentioned that there will be a 4 week rotation for the breakfast items (eggs benny, vegetarian cali-style benny, egg burrito, scrambled, and maybe waffles) and that there is additional parking underneath the hotel. We are also reminded to not park in the hotel guest check-in spaces as there are only three available for hotel guests. Monica mentioned that she will be moving her office to Surrey. Finally, Paige mentioned that our new exchange student from Brazil will be flying in today.
7:25- It was Jill's birthday, and we all sang, “Happy Birthday” to her.
7:30- Tony collected dollars for the Happy Dollar Bucket. He gave a public service announcement that he will not be at the Rotary meeting next week as he will be in Vegas with Wendy, Bob, Kathy and Lorna. Tony also went to a garden party last week in New West, and it was the best garden he has ever seen. Hansi explains to us where the origin for Rotary's 2015 motto, “be a gift to the world” came from- the international president of Rotary's mother had polio years ago in Sri Lanka. She needed an iron lung to survive, but there wasn't an iron lung in Sri Lanka. In a short period of time, with the help of some Rotarians, they were able to get an iron lung from Germany and the mother was able to live. The international president's mother received a gift from Rotary, therefore, as Rotarians, we should be a gift to the world.
7:45- Wendy introduced our guest speaker, Michael Walsh, a business consultant.
8:00- Tony thanked the speaker and Wendy photographed the presentation of the certificate.
8:10- Andrew closed with the Four Way Test and a Toast to the Queen by Rick.
Greeters are the first point of contact for guests, potential new members, and our members. Making all who attend our meeting feel welcome is the responsibility of all of us as we all take turns being greeters.
1. All greeters should arrive no later than 6:40 am and be prepared to assist in setting up and preparing for the meeting. If a greeter cannot be present for their day of duties, please contact another member to fill in for you.
2. Greeter # 1 will ensure that the sandwich board at the entrance
3. Greeter # 2 will ensure that flags and banners are in place.
4. Greeters should welcome all members and guests and make them comfortable with the proceedings and surroundings, i.e., seating, coffee, schedule of meeting etc.
5. Greeter # 1 greets and sits with the speaker to gather information useful in providing a respectful and meaningful introduction of the speaker and the program.
6. Greeter # 2 thanks the speaker and presents the certificate of appreciation for their presentation. NOTE: The certificate is NOT a contribution of $20.00 in the speakers’ name. We donate $20.00 to the Rotary Foundation in recognition of their presentation at the meeting.
7. Greeter # 3 assists in taking down the flags, banners and places the sandwich board back in the cupboard.
