Minutes at the Mic - Aug 31, 2016
There are a lot of exciting things going on. To find out more about the Salvation Army Back to School and more.

7:00am: We started with the singing of "Oh, Canada". Thought of the day from Aman Grewal, "Be silly.  Be fun.  Be different.  Be wacky.  Be you, because life is too short to be anything but happy!"

7:10am: Breakfast served

7:15am: Introduction of guests: John Berry (from the noon club), Rick Janssen (Roy Prevost's guest), Quinn Waddington, Alexi McGreer (Lizz Kelly's guest),Juan Herrera (inbound exchange student from Mexino), and Lavinia Capriccioli (inbound exchange student from Italy).

7:20am: Minutes at the Mic

  • Marie will not be back until next year and Sandy is currently doing the bulletin.  If anyone else is interested in helping out with the bulletin, talk to Sandy.
  • Monica reminded everyone that our national anthem now says, "in all of us command" instead of, "in all our sons command".
  • Roy made a good morning video for Doug Fynn.
  • Alexi let everyone know that there are a few networking events that the chamber of commerce is having in the month of September, talk to Lizz for more information.
  • Bob and Kathy picked up 6 cases of school supplies on the weekend for the Salvation Army school supply drive.  Way to go guys!

7:30am: Toonie Bucket: Tony reminded everyone of the slippery slope that is political correctness.  For example, it is now called a utility hole instead of a man hole.  Sandy, Paige and Olivia survived their camping trip.  Winner is Gordon!

7:45am:  Guest Speaker and Royal City Rotary Member Gloria Stauldt spoke about the Rotary Literacy program. She spoke of one instance where they helped make a library in a small rural first nations community.  Gloria also spoke about CALS, which stands for Computer Assisted Literacy Solution.  This system helps school children with literacy.  Rotary International funds the program, and the cost is about $100 CAD per student per year.

8:00am:  Four way test.

3.       Greeter # 2 will ensure that flags and banners are in place.

4.       Greeters should welcome all members and guests and make them comfortable with the proceedings and surroundings, i.e., seating, coffee, schedule of meeting etc.

5.       Greeter # 1 greets and sits with the speaker to gather information useful in providing a respectful and meaningful introduction of the speaker and the program.

6.       Greeter # 2 thanks the speaker and presents the certificate of appreciation for their presentation. NOTE: The certificate is NOT a contribution of $20.00 in the speakers’ name. We donate $20.00 to the Rotary Foundation in recognition of their presentation at the meeting.
