Lynn and Mariane presented on the New West Youth Ambassador's program.
It is a program to give local teens the opportunity to volunteer. The age range of the volunteers is 15-18 years old.
The program lasts for a year, and in that year, the volunteers get 90 hours of volunteer work and a continuing education grant. The volunteers are sponsored by local businesses. Whenever the volunteers are out doing volunteer work, they are also promoting their local sponsor.
You can see the volunteers around New West, their uniform consists of a white golf shirt with the sponsor's name on the shirt , black pants, and a name tag.

My friends,
It is with a heavy heart that I write to share with you the news that my father, Furio, passed away in Tuesday night. He went very quickly and peacefully, which is a true blessing. My father, as you may know, was not well for a number of years, his decline
having started in 2006 when he got lung cancer and had to have a lung removed. He still managed to live independently until Tuesday afternoon when he collapsed in his apartment struggling to breathe. A quick ultrasound at VGH emerg showed his remaining lung
was failing and had many dark spots that were either a serious chronic infection or, more likely, a recurrence of his cancer. Within hours we realized that this was the end. We switched to comfort care and within the hour he took a brief, raspy last breath
and was gone. After many years of tenuous health, made worse by his constant refusal to take better care of himself and break his wretched smoking habit, he suffered relatively little in his last few hours, thankfully. At a rather venerable 80 years of age,
he truly defied the odds until the very end. A difficult man, but one whose presence could never go unnoticed, and who had a genius legal mind.

7:00- Everyone sang, "Oh Canada". Breakfast was then served.
7:15- Minutes at the mic: Tony reminded everyone to turn in their raffle tickets for, "the Heart of the Matter" raffle.
Paige reminded everyone that there is a Brazilian potluck at 4pm at Laurie Stewart's house on Sunday and there is a new generations meeting at 2pm.
We all gathered to make Doug a good morning video.
Gord reminded everyone of a, "Orphans in Ukraine" Gala presented by the Rotary Club of Burnaby and friends on April 17th 4-8pm at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church (550 West 14th ave).
Gord also reminded everyone of the, "Walk for Polio" on May 14th at the River Market starting at 9am.
Kathy announced the winners of the, "Heart of the Matter" draw: first place went to Jerry Law, second place went to Terry Hamilton, third place went to Darryl O'Genski, fourth went to Dr. Kelsi Snow, and fifth went to Burt Price from the Burnaby Club.
On April 9th at 6pm, Kathy is hosting a house party and get together.
Gloria passed around birthday cards for everyone to sign.
Bob reminded everyone of the hockey pool standings, Jim Hutson is still in first place.

Greeters are the first point of contact for guests, potential new members, and our members. Making all who attend our meeting feel welcome is the responsibility of all of us as we all take turns being greeters.
1. All greeters should arrive no later than 6:40 am and be prepared to assist in setting up and preparing for the meeting. If a greeter cannot be present for their day of duties, please contact another member to fill in for you.
2. Greeter # 1 will ensure that the sandwich board at the entrance
3. Greeter # 2 will ensure that flags and banners are in place.
4. Greeters should welcome all members and guests and make them comfortable with the proceedings and surroundings, i.e., seating, coffee, schedule of meeting etc.
5. Greeter # 1 greets and sits with the speaker to gather information useful in providing a respectful and meaningful introduction of the speaker and the program.
6. Greeter # 2 thanks the speaker and presents the certificate of appreciation for their presentation. NOTE: The certificate is NOT a contribution of $20.00 in the speakers’ name. We donate $20.00 to the Rotary Foundation in recognition of their presentation at the meeting.
7. Greeter # 3 assists in taking down the flags, banners and places the sandwich board back in Kathy's office.
· Greeters may change duties amongst themselves if desired.
The Good Host program is how YOU can get involved - you are invited to help out by meeting, greeting and sharing cultural experiences with our Youth Exchange student. Franciele Henk is here and deserves to see and experience Canada to the fullest.
Good Hosts are designated each week - but also can be anyone who would like to share some time with Franciele - a phone call, lunch, dinner with family, sporting event, cultural outing. However - all who host our youth exchange student unsupervised - even for a day event - must have submitted the YE police check paperwork to Paige Freeman prior to hosting.
