Each year in District 5040, as required by RI Policy, we choose a Rotarian to serve as District Governor approx. 2.5 years from now. The President of any Club in the District can submit the name of one of its members for consideration by the District Nominating Committee.
The Nominating Committee in District 5040 is made up of the District Governor Elect, the District Governor Nominee, the two immediate Past District Governors and one Assistant Governor who is a member of a club in District 5040.
This year the chair of the District Nominating Committee is immediate Past District Governor Ken Wilson. Nominations can be filed through October 2015. Nominations close November 1st2015. Interviews will be held in November in Vancouver, likely November 22nd, and the candidate announced by December 1st. A candidate for District Governor-nominee may be challenged. Such a challenge shall be made pursuant to the Manual of Procedure of Rotary no later than December 15th2015.
District 5040 Policy States for the Nominations and Election of District Governor Nominee:
4.1. The Manual of Procedure of Rotary International provides that a District Governor is nominated by the clubs in a district and elected by the Rotary International convention.
4.2. On or before October 1 of the second year prior to the year in which it is anticipated a District Governor shall assume office, the President of a club wishing to place the name of one of its members in nomination shall file with the chair of the nominating committee and the District Governor a resolution of the club, adopted at a regular meeting of the club naming such candidate and certifying that the candidate meets the qualifications for District Governor as provided by the Manual of Procedure for Rotary International.
4.3. The club resolution shall be accompanied by a current photograph of the candidate and a resume setting out both Rotary service and their personal background.
Serving as District Governor is an honour and a privilege. We look forward to receiving nominations for DG 2018 - 2019.

7:00 – Our President, Gordon Hobbis, officially opened our meeting with the singing of our national anthem, “Oh, Canada,” followed by the Word of the Day by Wendy.
7:05 - Breakfast was served.
7:25 - Introduction of guests, Dawn Embree, Franciele, our exchange student, from Brazil, our new members in waiting, Gloria Staudt and Carlos Galvez, John Berry, from the noon club, Ralph Mathews, Dorie-Anne Leggett, and our youngest honorary member, Olivia.
7:30 – Minutes at the Mic. Bob MacKerricher reminded us we only have two weeks before the hockey season starts. So start selling those hockey pool tickets! Kathy invited us to Feast on the Fraser September 25th to October 4th. Also, a reminder that during the construction period we are able to park in Hotel and Market parking spaces, and underground. Roy reminded us of our first Heart of the Matter committee meeting today. Also we all said “Hi” to Doug via video. Nick invited us to Rotary on Ice on October 16th, it costs $16 dollars, $5 of which gets donated to Polio Plus. Alana informed us we received a “Thank you” from the Rotary Foundation for the money we sent it. Sandy reminded us the best way to get in touch with Franciele and invite her out is to contact her host mother, currently Margot. Margot’s contact information is contained herein.
We sung Happy Birthday to Roy (in our own version so as not to violate any copyright laws).
7:35 – Tony collects our Happy Dollars and we drew our 50/50 tickets.
7:40 – Today we had no guest speakers to do our business meeting. Alana reported on club finance, and we approved her numbers. Thank you Alana, for all the hard work you do keeping track of where our money is coming and going! Monica spoke about our Youth Exchange program and reminded us of the activities we are insured for. No scuba diving, motorized sports, bungee jumping, rock climbing, sky diving, parachuting or mountaineering of any kind. Any recognized hiking trails are fine. Thanks Monica, for protecting our liability! Sandy gave her report on club attendance. The only way to be eligible for make-ups is to report them to her directly either 4 weeks before or 4 weeks after the day you wish to make up. If you wish to apply a make-up outside of the prescribed time-frame, board approval is necessary.
Club reminders of our District Governor’s visit October 14th, so please attend.
7:55 – Rick (and the Pot of Gold Committee) presented the cheque to our beneficiaries.

Greeter Duties
Greeters are the first point of contact for guests, potential new members, and our members. Making all who attend our meeting feel welcome is the responsibility of all of us as we all take turns being greeters.
1. All greeters should arrive no later than 6:40 am and be prepared to assist in setting up and preparing for the meeting. If a greeter cannot be present for their day of duties, please contact another member to fill in for you.
2. Greeter # 1 will ensure that the sandwich board at the entrance
3. Greeter # 2 will ensure that flags and banners are in place.
4. Greeters should welcome all members and guests and make them comfortable with the proceedings and surroundings, i.e., seating, coffee, schedule of meeting etc.
5. Greeter # 1 greets and sits with the speaker to gather information useful in providing a respectful and meaningful introduction of the speaker and the program.
6. Greeter # 2 thanks the speaker and presents the certificate of appreciation for their presentation. NOTE: The certificate is NOT a contribution of $20.00 in the speakers’ name. We donate $20.00 to the Rotary Foundation in recognition of their presentation at the meeting.
7. Greeter # 3 assists in taking down the flags, banners and places the sandwich board back in Kathy's office.
· Greeters may change duties amongst themselves if desired.
The Good Host program is how YOU can get involved - you are invited to help out by meeting, greeting and sharing cultural experiences with our Youth Exchange student. Franciele Henk is here and deserves to see and experience Canada to the fullest.
Good Hosts are designated each week - but also can be anyone who would like to share some time with Franciele - a phone call, lunch, dinner with family, sporting event, cultural outing. However - all who host our youth exchange student unsupervised - even for a day event - must have submitted the YE police check paperwork to Paige Freeman prior to hosting.
