7:15 Minutes at the Mic

  • Dave – Donations for the 14 men at Stevenson House need to be delivered by December 20; Heart of the Matter tickets are now available at $125 each. A sign up sheet will be passed around to record each member's number of volunteer hours (per month). Please remember to track your volunteer hours.
  • Monica – We have sold six sponsorships for the Heart of the Matter so far. We still have more to go. If you know anyone else who may be interested in being a sponsor, please let Monica know.
  • Kathy – Reminds us that our club Charity Breakfast is on December 13, please bring an unwrapped, new item for auction. Proceeds from the auction will go to the Purpose Society and the Salvation Army. If you have any auction items for the Heart of the Matter, please let Kathy know.
  • Bob – Updated the club on the results of the Hockey Pool so far. None of our members are in the top 20. Our Club donates $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation each year and in return we’re able to give one Paul Harris Fellow and receive a $1,000 tax receipt for this charitable donation. The Club can’t use the tax receipt so we auction it to the highest contributors to the Rotary Foundation. The highest contributor receives a $200 tax receipt down to the twelveth highest who receives a $50 tax receipt. This is in addition to the full tax receipt for contributions to the Rotary Foundation. We’re encouraging our members to support the Foundation and receive a little extra charitable donation deduction for 2017.
  • Haze – Red Bull is presenting "The Art of Flight" at the Landmark Theater on December 13. Proceeds are going to the hot lunch program at New Westminster Secondary School. Dinner tickets are $15 each for December 7 at 7pm. If you are able to attend, please let Haze know.
  • Quinn – Is distributing the Heart of the Matter Raffle Tickets. If you haven't received yours yet, please see Quinn.

Good Host Program

Image

The Good Host program is how YOU can get involved - you are invited to help out by meeting, greeting and sharing cultural experiences with our Youth Exchange student. Victor Xavier (Brazil) is here and deserve to see and experience Canada to the fullest.

Any one of us can be Good Hosts by simply sharing some time with Victor. A phone call, lunch, dinner with family, sporting event, cultural outing, almost anything goes. However - all who host our youth exchange student unsupervised - even for a day event - must have submitted the YE police check paperwork to Paige Freeman prior to hosting.

Please remember to include our youth exchange students in any activities you and your family participate in. Please speak to Victor directly or contact him at:

Greeter Duties

Greeters are the first point of contact for guests, potential new members, and our members. Making all who attend our meeting feel welcome is the responsibility of all of us as we all take turns being greeters.

1.       All greeters should arrive no later than 6:40 am and be prepared to assist in setting up and preparing for the meeting. If a greeter cannot be present for their day of duties, please contact another member to fill in for you.

2.       Greeter #1 will ensure that the sandwich board at the entrance

3.       Greeter #2 will ensure that flags and banners are in place.

4.       Greeters should welcome all members and guests and make them comfortable with the proceedings and surroundings, i.e., seating, coffee, schedule of meeting etc.

5.       Greeter #1 greets and sits with the speaker to gather information useful in providing a respectful and meaningful introduction of the speaker and the program.

6.       Greeter #2 thanks the speaker and presents the certificate of appreciation for their presentation.

NOTE: The certificate is NOT a contribution of $20.00 in the speakers’ name. We donate $20.00 to the Rotary Foundation in recognition of their presentation at the meeting.

7.       Greeter #3 assists in taking down the flags, banners and places the sandwich board back in Kathy's office.
