• Leo, our exchange student. This is our last day with Leo, he will be going on a month long tour of BC before he leaves for Germany. 

• The century bike ride got cancelled.
• July 16th is the pot of gold tournament.
• Gloria spoke about the Rotoractors are wanting to do a project with the two new west clubs, so this Monday, the 24th at 7pm there will be a maintenance, "painting fish" project on 10th avenue on the fence of the Our Lady of Mercy School.
• Gloria also spoke about peace fellowships: we had nine applicants and we endorsed 4 (two international and two local).
• Alana spoke about today being the last day for foundation contributions.
• Monica is looking for volunteers for the pot of gold tournament.
• Rick Molstad reminded everyone of the committee meeting next week for the pot of gold tournament.
• Leo thanked everyone for being a part of our club for the past 11 months. Leo reflected on his time with our club.

• Monica spoke about the rotary club of Burnaby's Rotary resolution to have an, "act of kindness day" on or around the birthday of rotary founder, Paul Harris (Apr. 19th).

• Monica spoke about the installation dinner. Dr. Faizal Mohamedali received a Paul Harris award. He was surprised and excited to receive the award.

• Monica spent the next day volunteering at RCH golf tournament and did great work bringing awareness to rotary and our golf tournament.

I am writing to you as dawn breaks in the town of Mbale in eastern Uganda. It is loud with birds and roosters telling the world to wake up. The sky is red on the horizon and the air smells of woodsmoke as women cook breakfast.

I am spending this week visiting our projects in this area.  We walk through small fields, now a lush green because the rains have finally come.  I travel with some of our team and we go from home to home talking with the villagers about the tremendous transformations they have made to their kitchens, latrines, bath houses, compost pits, animal shelters and so on, having been shown how to make these changes by our team. Yesterday’s village now has 100% of the homes with latrines and will now qualify to be declared an “open defaecation free” village. The people are so proud and the simple homes are beautiful

These people are very poor. There is no electricity or water pipes. But they are clever and funny - we laugh a lot

This is what you have all contributed to at HOTM. You have no idea how you transform lives and protect children from deadly diseases 

The people tell me again and again “weebali muno “ - thank so much, so I say to you all, weebali muno!
