Rick mentioned that our exchange student Anna is now here and to get your criminal record check completed before taking her out. Anna also brought gifts from Brazil for everyone!

7:40 Guest Speakers - Andrew Takacs spoke of his adventures in forestry
Adventures in forestry took place in Prince George.
On day 1, they spent time at Aleza Lake to learn how to plant trees. Andrew also learned how to assess creeks that day.
Day 2, they spent the whole day at pulp and saw mills. They got to learn how paper gets made. At the saw mill, Andrew was surprised at how automated everything was. Andrew also visited a tree nursery that day to learn how to grow and harvest trees. Andrew then visited the college of New Caledonia to take a tour.
On the third day, the crew went to the airport and learned about forest fire treatment. Andrew got to see the air tanker fire retardant dropper. It costs $30,000 to fill the plane with one load of fire retardant material! The air tanker fights fires all over the province. The crew then went to UNBC to learn about wild plants.
At the end of the trip, there was a banquet to send all of the kids off. Andrew learned a lot, and will be studying forestry in BCIT this fall.
Introducing Ana Brunholi, our exchange student from Brazil
Our new Youth Exchange Student arrived August 13th. She is Ana Brunholi from Brazil. Currently she is on the Tweedsmuir Trek with the Burns Lake Rotary Club, and will be returning to start school in September. She will be residing with the Barton Family for the first several months. She can be contacted on her cellphone at 778-893-2532 or the Barton's home telephone at 604-522-3997. Bartons live at 332 Keary Street, close to Royal Columbian Hospital.
You are encouraged to promote the "Good Host" program, inviting Ana to experience BC activities, from dinner in your own home or a restaurant, shows, museums, to hikes and the like. She is interested in music and sports. Remember that if you have unsupervised contact with Ana, you require a Criminal Records Check, which is easily done at no cost to you. Contact Rick Molstad for instructions.
Greeters are the first point of contact for guests, potential new members, and our members. Making all who attend our meeting feel welcome is the responsibility of all of us as we all take turns being greeters. All greeters should arrive no later than 6:40 am and be prepared to assist in setting up and preparing for the meeting. If a greeter cannot be present for their day of duties, please contact another member to fill in for you. Greeters will:
ensure that the sandwich board at the entrance.
ensure that flags and banners are in place.
welcome all members and guests and make them comfortable with the proceedings and surroundings, i.e., seating, coffee, schedule of meeting etc.
greet and sit with the speaker to gather information useful in providing a respectful and meaningful introduction of the speaker and the program.
thank the speaker and present the certificate of appreciation for their presentation. (Note: The certificate is NOT a contribution of $20.00 in the speakers’ name. We donate $20.00 to the Rotary Foundation in recognition of their presentation at the meeting.)
assist in taking down the flags, banners and place the sandwich board back in Kathy's office.
