Kathy, Peggy and Laurie of the Bases Thrift Shop in Burnaby.

Non-Profit Thrift Shop with registered charity status. Started with goal of assisting low-income families in the Edmonds area.

ABOUT

Vision:

A community where all children and families are able to develop strong foundations for an independent, positive future.

Mission Statement:

We assist at-risk children and families in southeast Burnaby to experience success by fund-raising to provide a variety of opportunities leading towards independence.

Some of the future program opportunities will aim to develop the academic, physical and personal potential of children and families through breakfast programs, homework clubs, sports, cultural programs (arts, crafts, fine arts) and community kitchens.

Our Mission at the BASES Family Thrift Store:

· To raise money for BASES Programs

· To offer respect, courtesy and friendship to our customers and each other

· To offer professional service to our customers by following the thrift store manual

· To promote environmental responsibility and help recycle where possible

Susan: Hello videos for Doug, Angie and Fran!

Tony: Heart of the Matter tickets drawn today at 10:AM in Kathy’s office! Thanks everybody for your hard work.

Paige: Youth Generation meeting is Sunday, March 20th at 2:00pm at Lorrie Stewart’s house. Following the meeting is a Brazilian Potluck for Fran at 4pm, everyone is invited.

Registration is available NOW for both sessions on the District website www.rotary5040.org. Please register online soon.

The District Assembly to be held on March 19th is a phenomenal opportunity for those who wish to serve in a leadership capacity, network and build more effective and vibrant clubs. I encourage your clubs to send 3-5 people or more to this session-------- please talk it up at your meetings. Information is as follows:

March 19 Lower Mainland and Sea to Sky District Assembly

· Location: Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club

· Address: 5460 No. 7 Road Richmond

· Cost: $35. Includes lunch.

· Time: Registration Coffee and pastries 8:30. Session 9 to 4pm.

The Grant Management Seminar which is to be held on March 12^th is designed to help train Rotarians about applying for and writing grants. It is required that each club send at least one member to this session but I would recommend at least two or three people so that your club has the most up to date information to apply for The Rotary Foundation District and Global Grants. Information is as follows:

Lizz: Received an email from Fran wanting to go to Squamish and is looking for drivers!

Tony: On a lighter note:

Italian prime minister was approached by three low-level minions complaining about the restoration of the ancient Gothic Cathedrals in Southern Rome, which is costing millions of dollars. The complaint was the manager was working too much, sometimes 12 hour days, and is setting a bad example for everybody else!

Patrick: Happy International Women’s Day yesterday, everyone!

Greeter Duties

Greeters are the first point of contact for guests, potential new members, and our members. Making all who attend our meeting feel welcome is the responsibility of all of us as we all take turns being greeters.

1. All greeters should arrive no later than 6:40 am and be prepared to assist in setting up and preparing for the meeting. If a greeter cannot be present for their day of duties, please contact another member to fill in for you.

2. Greeter # 1 will ensure that the sandwich board at the entrance

3. Greeter # 2 will ensure that flags and banners are in place.

4. Greeters should welcome all members and guests and make them comfortable with the proceedings and surroundings, i.e., seating, coffee, schedule of meeting etc.

5. Greeter # 1 greets and sits with the speaker to gather information useful in providing a respectful and meaningful introduction of the speaker and the program.

6. Greeter # 2 thanks the speaker and presents the certificate of appreciation for their presentation. NOTE: The certificate is NOT a contribution of $20.00 in the speakers’ name. We donate $20.00 to the Rotary Foundation in recognition of their presentation at the meeting.

7. Greeter # 3 assists in taking down the flags, banners and places the sandwich board back in Kathy's office.

· Greeters may change duties amongst themselves if desired.

Good Host Program

The Good Host program is how YOU can get involved - you are invited to help out by meeting, greeting and sharing cultural experiences with our Youth Exchange student. Franciele Henk is here and deserves to see and experience Canada to the fullest.

Good Hosts are designated each week - but also can be anyone who would like to share some time with Franciele - a phone call, lunch, dinner with family, sporting event, cultural outing. However - all who host our youth exchange student unsupervised - even for a day event - must have submitted the YE police check paperwork to Paige Freeman prior to hosting.
