Our speaker, District Governor John Anderson, presented to us on the vision and goals of Rotary, and in particular, this year’s theme, “Be a Gift to the World.”
John has been a Rotarian for 20 years, was President of the Tsawwassen Club in 2011/2012, was a member of West Van Club from 1990 to 2002. He has served on many District Committees. Originally from Melbourne, Australia. Has a Doctorate in Education. Was District Superintendant of Schools. Now works as an Education Consultant. He has a wife named Claire, four children, and four grandchildren. He said working in the education field, he mostly knew only other teachers, and joined Rotary mainly to meet people in different fields.

Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen,
On behalf of the 2016 New Westminster Hyack Ambassador Program Committee, I would like to welcome and thank you for your support of the longest running youth leadership program in our Royal City - the New Westminster Hyack Ambassador Program. Our candidate selection process is almost complete and, to date, we have interviewed six very impressive applicants so it will be an exciting year ahead!
At this time, I would like to invite you, and/or a representative of your business/organization, to attend the first event of the program, the “Meet and Greet” evening where candidates will be paired up with one of the sponsoring organizations through a random draw process. This “Meet and Greet” event will be Thursday, Oct. 29 at the New Westminster Public Library (downstairs) beginning at 7 pm, if you could arrive a few minutes before hand so we can check you in, that would be appreciated. The event will consist of introductions, the “sponsorship draw”, photos for the media and light refreshments, we expect it to be about an hour to an hour and half in length.
If you could kindly respond by e-mail with the name of your representative and their position, again that would be appreciated, thank you. Also, we do need, as soon as possible, the exact wording of how you would like your sponsor sash to read as your candidate will be representing you by wearing that throughout the program. Lastly, we will give you your sponsorship package of information and dates so you may plan ahead accordingly for all the events your candidate will be attending and of course the big event of the New Westminster Ambassador Pageant and Awards Gala weekend of April 1 and April 2, 2016!
Again, on behalf of the Hyack Festival Association and the New Westminster Hyack Ambassador Leadership Program, we thank you for believing in our community’s youth by supporting them in this program where they will be given the opportunity to “develop their best S.E.L.F. through Service, Eduction, Leadership and Fun!”

7:00 – Our President, Gordon Hobbis, officially opened our meeting with the singing of our national anthem, “Oh, Canada,” followed by the Word of the Day.
7:05 - Breakfast was served.
7:25 - Introduction of guests, District Governor John Anderson, Assistant Governor Bala Naidoo, our exchange student Franciele, soon to be members Carlos and Gloria, and our youngest honorary member, Olivia. Sorry if we missed any of you!

Adventures in ......
This is the various adventures in programs that we sponsor. They include Adventures in Tourism and Adventures in Citizenship. The job is to liaise with the high school counsellor to find applicants and review applications to choose the participant. The person would work with the noon club and the youth services committee.
Bursaries. This task is to liaise with the high school and select recipients that meet the criteria for the bursaries our club awards. This person would also attend the awards ceremony.
Hyack Ambassador Program.
This job entails working with Hyack to promote the ambassador program.
Stevenson house. Dave has offered to take this on.
7:35 – Tony collects our Happy Dollars and we drew our 50/50 tickets.
7:40 – We formally inducted our newest members Gloria and Carlos. Congratulations and we are very excited to have you as members!

Greeters are the first point of contact for guests, potential new members, and our members. Making all who attend our meeting feel welcome is the responsibility of all of us as we all take turns being greeters.
1. All greeters should arrive no later than 6:40 am and be prepared to assist in setting up and preparing for the meeting. If a greeter cannot be present for their day of duties, please contact another member to fill in for you.
2. Greeter # 1 will ensure that the sandwich board at the entrance
3. Greeter # 2 will ensure that flags and banners are in place.
4. Greeters should welcome all members and guests and make them comfortable with the proceedings and surroundings, i.e., seating, coffee, schedule of meeting etc.
5. Greeter # 1 greets and sits with the speaker to gather information useful in providing a respectful and meaningful introduction of the speaker and the program.
6. Greeter # 2 thanks the speaker and presents the certificate of appreciation for their presentation. NOTE: The certificate is NOT a contribution of $20.00 in the speakers’ name. We donate $20.00 to the Rotary Foundation in recognition of their presentation at the meeting.
7. Greeter # 3 assists in taking down the flags, banners and places the sandwich board back in Kathy's office.
· Greeters may change duties amongst themselves if desired.
The Good Host program is how YOU can get involved - you are invited to help out by meeting, greeting and sharing cultural experiences with our Youth Exchange student. Franciele Henk is here and deserves to see and experience Canada to the fullest.
Good Hosts are designated each week - but also can be anyone who would like to share some time with Franciele - a phone call, lunch, dinner with family, sporting event, cultural outing. However - all who host our youth exchange student unsupervised - even for a day event - must have submitted the YE police check paperwork to Paige Freeman prior to hosting.
