7:15 Minutes at the Mic

  • Dave – Donations for the 14 men at Stevenson House need to be delivered by December 20; Heart of the Matter tickets continue to be available at $125 each. Please track your volunteer hours (monthly) on the sign up sheet going around.
  • Monica – Reminds us that there is a board meeting immediately following the regular club meeting.
  • Wendy - Informed club members that Arlene's father has moved to George Derby.
  • Roy - Ted X is wondering if anyone still wants to buy tickets. There were ten people who originally signed up for additional information.
  • Ron – Our club donates $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation each year and in return we're able to give one Paul Harris Fellow and receive a $1,000 tax receipt for this charitable donation. The club can't use the tax receipt so we auction it to the highest contributors to the Rotary Foundation for the current year. The highest contributor receives a $200 tax receipt down to the twelfth highest who receives a $50 tax receipt. This is in addition to the full tax receipt for contributions to the Rotary Foundation. We're encouraging our members to support the Foundation and receive a little extra charitable donation deduction for 2017.
  • Gloria - Said thanks to those supporting the Loas families, a sign up sheet will be passed around. Victor has a bucket list which is included in the bulletin, please consider including him in activities. Reminder that the Peace Building Conference is Febuary 9 to 11, 2018 and costs $250.
  • Rick - The Hyack ambassador tea is January 28, 2018.
  • Quinn – Haze's moving night raised a whopping $1,820. Reminder that the Heart of the Matter Raffle Tickets stubs need to be returned as well as the funds.
  • Bob - Provided an Hockey Pool update. Quinn is near the top, but Ryan Waddington is moving higher as well as Aman. We are looking for one more person to jingle bells with Andrew on Saturday between 6pm and 8pm.
  • Paige - Informed the club that we have no candidates for Youth Exchange for next year (2018/2019). We have offered ourselves as a host community to other clubs should one be needed.

Good Host Program

Image

The Good Host program is how YOU can get involved - you are invited to help out by meeting, greeting and sharing cultural experiences with our Youth Exchange student. Victor Xavier (Brazil) is here and deserve to see and experience Canada to the fullest.

Any one of us can be Good Hosts by simply sharing some time with Victor. A phone call, lunch, dinner with family, sporting event, cultural outing, almost anything goes. However - all who host our youth exchange student unsupervised - even for a day event - must have submitted the YE police check paperwork to Paige Freeman prior to hosting.

Please remember to include our youth exchange students in any activities you and your family participate in. Please speak to Victor directly or contact him at:

Greeter Duties

Greeters are the first point of contact for guests, potential new members, and our members. Making all who attend our meeting feel welcome is the responsibility of all of us as we all take turns being greeters.

1.       All greeters should arrive no later than 6:40 am and be prepared to assist in setting up and preparing for the meeting. If a greeter cannot be present for their day of duties, please contact another member to fill in for you.

2.       Greeter #1 will ensure that the sandwich board at the entrance

3.       Greeter #2 will ensure that flags and banners are in place.

4.       Greeters should welcome all members and guests and make them comfortable with the proceedings and surroundings, i.e., seating, coffee, schedule of meeting etc.

5.       Greeter #1 greets and sits with the speaker to gather information useful in providing a respectful and meaningful introduction of the speaker and the program.

6.       Greeter #2 thanks the speaker and presents the certificate of appreciation for their presentation.

NOTE: The certificate is NOT a contribution of $20.00 in the speakers’ name. We donate $20.00 to the Rotary Foundation in recognition of their presentation at the meeting.

7.       Greeter #3 assists in taking down the flags, banners and places the sandwich board back in Kathy's office.

·         Greeters may change duties amongst themselves if desired.
