Monica: Last week we had a Rotarian visitor from Ontario who was the first woman in her club 30 years ago. She gave Monica a pin to award to a woman in the club who has made contributions. Monica awarded the pin to Alana.

Age is Just a Number Initiative Details - Presentation Notes
Lorna and I would like to introduce a new Fund Raiser that our Rotary Club will be participating in this year – “Age is Just a Number”. It will be held on Wednesday October 2nd at 6:00 pm at the Roma Hall in Queensborough. This is senior’s week and I will ask the Board to consider cancelling our Wednesday morning meeting that day to encourage more participation.
This is a new project and the event will be presented in conjunction with Seniors Services Society. All proceeds from this event will benefits seniors in New Westminster.
Seniors Services Society has had an annual Fall fundraiser since 2013, raising a total of $70,000. However, last year’s event wasn’t terribly successful for a variety of reasons, so they went looking for a new partnership.
The ticket price is $75 per person and will include a glass of bubbly upon arrival, family style Italian dinner (Roma Hall is famous for their fabulous food), dinner wine, entertainment by “King Fish”, silent & live auction and a wine draw.
Lorna, you are the brain child behind this event – why and how did it come about?
As Director of Ways & Means, I like to have a roadmap/budget on where we are going. On the tables there is a draft of the budget which I will quickly go thru.
So how will these funds benefit seniors in New Westminster? Please find on the tables the “ask letter”. Funds will provide meals on wheels, . . .
What are we asking of our Club Members? Please consider attending and/or inviting friends/colleagues. Are you able to donate or source an auction prize?
Also, FYI on the tables are a one-page flyer and a 4-page sponsor package.
WE WANT TO ENSURE THAT THIS NEW EVENT DOES NOT TAKE AWAY FROM ANY OF OUR OTHER EVENTS. The intention is to work with Seniors Services Society and to reach out to new people. We will still need your assistance with our Club’s Hockey Pool, To the Heart of the Matter, Spring Fling and next year’s Pot of Gold golf tournament.
Currently on the committee are Brett, Nipa and Marg from Seniors Services Society and from our Club Lorna, Wendy, Alana and Kathy. Also serving on the committee are Lynn Radbourne and Marlene Daniel, two committed local Residents.

is planning to put a workshop together and so is creating an event: how to alleviate anxiety and stress in the workplace.
life presents us with the perfect storm through AI:life is speeding up, technology leaves people behind by replacing their jobs, and addiction to hand held devices. This is compounded because we don't talk about anxiety or mental illness.
Further, people internalize the negative news. Remember, TV news competes for viewers.
Roy is investigating alternatives to deal with anxiety. What helps:
meditation
journalling
turn off the TV
exercise
examine what you can control: not others, your trigger points, your environment.... What do you have control over?
Greeters are the first point of contact for guests, potential new members, and our members. Making all who attend our meeting feel welcome is the responsibility of all of us as we all take turns being greeters. All greeters should arrive no later than 6:40 am and be prepared to assist in setting up and preparing for the meeting. If a greeter cannot be present for their day of duties, please contact another member to fill in for you. Greeters will:
ensure that the sandwich board at the entrance.
ensure that flags and banners are in place.
welcome all members and guests and make them comfortable with the proceedings and surroundings, i.e., seating, coffee, schedule of meeting etc.
greet and sit with the speaker to gather information useful in providing a respectful and meaningful introduction of the speaker and the program.
thank the speaker and present the certificate of appreciation for their presentation. (Note: The certificate is NOT a contribution of $20.00 in the speakers’ name. We donate $20.00 to the Rotary Foundation in recognition of their presentation at the meeting.)
assist in taking down the flags, banners and place the sandwich board back in Kathy's office.
